“Subconscious Works of Art” is a multi-part exhibition of paintings, drawings and poetry that Angela Gegg, AKA “Proshká” has created over the last three years. Gegg approaches painting from an intuitive direction. The creative process for her entails tapping into the deepest recesses of her subconscious. That twilight zone area between dreams and conscious thought that the id reigns unchallenged. The Id, in Freudian psychoanalytic terms is one of three fundamental facets of personality; the others are the ego and the superego. The id is the source for wild and crazy behavior. It can be viewed as the reservoir of the instinctual drives of the individual.
Gegg’s work jumps into that netherworld of dreams with fierce abandon. She works in three different visual styles simultaneously. One of those styles is reminiscent of the geometric distillation of the figure found in the Synthetic Cubist paintings of Pablo Picasso, Robert Delaunay, Fernand Leger, and Francis Picabia. … READ MORE!
Inside the Gallery at the Opening of "Subconscious Works of Art". The Exhibit opened on Friday, June 11th 2004. The Embassy of Mexico in Belize held the reception at the Mexican Institute of Culture and History. Distinguished guests included the Mexican Ambassador of Belize, Mr. Arturo Trejo and the Honorable Governor General, Sir Colvil Young, (both seen giving speeches with Miss Proshka). Other guests included Belize's finest, among them were other local artists and entertainers (as seen in the pictures below). The show was a success!
